Worlds first 2TB HDD from Western Digital

Western Digital has unveiled their 2TB Caviar green hard disk.This becomes the worlds first commercial 2TB desktop hard drive.This model provides a storage density of 400 gigabit per square inch – the highest offered in any production drive at this time.

The new model utilizes 500GB/platter technology with 32MB cache.This makes use of IntelliPower which balances out the speed of transfer with the use of power to provide quick performance at reduced cost.The IntelliSeek feature allows the drive to optimize to further reduce power consumption, noise and vibration.The drive features technology which helps reduce platter vibrations.Western Digital's drive protection technology ensures that the recording head never comes into contact with the platters.In addition to the 2TB model, Western Digital is also launching a 1.5TB model along with a revised 1TB model.Eventhough the exact prices are not mentioned for any of the drives the 2TB version is showing up in Australian online stores for around $299.
